Creating a Theme

Take a moment to think – release yourself from the constraints of budget, time and the ideas of others – and just dream.
Create a picture of how your wedding day looks. Imagining your absolute dream will help you to understand the elements which are important to you and your groom, it is a great idea to create a scrapbook of ideas with images and words that represent your dream. This is especially useful when working with your planner, stylist, decorator or venue to ensure that everybody involved understands your concepts and thoughts.
Upon reviewing your scrapbook you will find that a common theme begins to tie your images and thoughts together – perhaps you tend to have a lot of greenery and countryside alluding to a garden wedding, pages filled with glorious manors and vintage cars or modern and edgy colours and scenes.
This will create your central theme, pinpoint certain images which really strike you, it may be a certain flower, colour, cake or dress.
This process helps you to clarify what you imagine your day to be and will assist you when selecting your venue and décor – discuss these ideas with your dressmaker or bridal store and they will quite often be able to recommend attire to suit your bridal party (it actually makes it easier for suppliers involved as they get a valuable insight as to what you are really after). Florists will be able to work with your ideas to create stunning arrangements – or perhaps there is no need for flowers at all and candles will be used as the basis for your decorating to create a warm and ambient atmosphere.
The most important thing is to discuss this with your Groom – it will give him an easy option to say yes I like that or no I don’t without having to trail to a myriad of expos and look through Bridal Magazines. This way you both know that the day is going to be a perfect reflection of you both!
Keep your scrapbook handy throughout your planning process and add the details of suppliers and venues that fit with your theme as you go – this ensures that all of the information is in one place rather than on the fridge, post it notes, emails and stacks of paperwork! The whole process helps to keep you organised and ensures that you will be stress free throughout the planning stages and creates a focus for you – planning your wedding can become overwhelming if you let it!
